Yahoo! mail problems

Posted in Technology at 3:30 pm by moore | Permalink

One of my clients had a problem earlier today. I helped them choose a new email setup, and they went with Yahoo Business Edition Mail. It’s worked like a charm for them until today. Oh, sure, they’ve had to adjust their business processes a bit, but it was a vast improvement over their previous situation, where only allowed one person in to view his or her mailbox at a time. And it’s quite low maintenance and fairly easy to learn, as it was entirely browser based.

But today, the web client for Yahoo! was busted. New layouts, new colors, old functionality gone, intermittent changes in the GUI, the whole bit. I got on the phone with Yahoo! support, and they assured me it was simply a webmail client problem. No mail was being lost. But, as Joel explains, for most folks, the interface is the program. You try explaining the difference between SMTP and POP and mail storage and local clients to an insurance agent who just wants to send her customers an application.

One of the worst bits is that, other than getting on the phone with Yahoo! support, there was absolutely nothing I could do to fix the problem. Alright, this isn’t entirely true–I could have worked on migrating them off the web client, and perhaps off Yahoo! entirely. And, had the outage continued, I probably would have begun that process. But fixing the web client was entirely out of my hands. That’s the joy and the pain of outsourcing, right? The problems aren’t yours to fix (yay!) but you can’t fix the problems yourself (boo!). Also, chances are the outsourcing provider is never going to be more enthusiastic than you about fixing your problems, and might be significantly less.

When login in Yahoo mail, most of the times appears the following message:”This page is currently unavailable. Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again later.”. I’m not able to solve this problem yet.

The very day I finally ditched AOL and decided to start relying solely on my Yahoo! free mail I began to get this message. Some luch, huh? Googled the error message and found this forum. The logging in through Chat seems to be working for now. Thank you for this advice.

Is Yahoo! even aware of — or working to resolve — this very serious issue??

Hey, I thought I was alone with the yahoo sign in problem… nothing on the net about it.

I too was able to access the account by going through the chat sign in.

I am local to yahoo’s home turf and tried to call them but they won’t take calls on free services like mail, chat etc…

I am trying to access my yahoo mail here in the uk, but I only got this message this morning and evening:

“Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again later.”

Yahoo does not post any information on what this trubble is caused by.

    Frustrating.

I’ve had the same Yahoo email sign-in problem for over a month now. I thought I had all my computer problems solved when I got the “Drive Switch”(great product) from e-bay stores, but this email thing is really frustrating. I emailed Yahoo and got a message from some auditor wondering how well my problem was handled. I answered that I never got an answer from Yahoo. Now I can’t find the place I “clicked on” to mail Yahoo. They probably wouldn’t answer anyway. They must be working on their site. I’ve seen this in the past with other sites, where they are “upgrading” but don’t tell you to be patient or whatever. They just leave you hanging!!!!!!

Well, well, well! MORE people with the same difficulty. I have been unable to access my e-mail since Christmas Eve. It’s been very frustrating, getting the same message you all have: ‘Sorry, the page is UNAVAILABLE.’ Even more frustrating is finding the proper link to contact Yahoo about the problem. Finally called them–OOPS! for ‘free’ users, we can only use the automated service. Used the automated service and got the response: ‘It’s not OUR problem. Contact your internet service provider or your system administrator. I contacted the ISP. Their response: “Sorry, things are fine here. It’s not OUR problem.’ Contacted the system administrator. Their response: ‘Sorry, everything is fine here. It’s not OUR problem.’
Well, it’s SOMEBODY’S PROBLEM!!!! What is equally frustrating is, I can go to somebody else’s computer and get on fine, but can’t do it on my own computer. So, if I want to access all of my e-mail addresses, I have to go somewhere else. My response: I’ve gone elsewhere. I’ve set up a new e-mail address at JUNO, and things are working FINE, thank you very much!

P.S. The secure button link works great for me.

  24. Tampa said,

I’ve been having the same problem, along with some thousands of people it seems.

My problem is with yahoo groups, but the error message is the same.

I believe this has to do something with some anti-spam action taken by Yahoo. If there are too many requests from the same IP, then that IP will be locked down for about 24 hrs or so. If you share IP with other surfers, then you might be suffering for the sins of others.

As an experiment I built a html page with links to 50 yahoo groups join pages in iframe tags. When I load this page from my harddrive, I always get locked out after about 15-30 join-pages have loaded.

You can work around the problem, either by setting up a http proxy under your LAN settings in Internet Explorer, or you could talk to your ISP about getting your own personal IP.

    Good luck

Is there such a thing as a yahoo support ? Would be good to get some kind of official statement on this. Since I’m mainly interested in yahoo groups, the secure sign in option doesn’t do me much good.

Ok, so I am having the same problem, obviously, or I wouldn’t be here. But I went in and I went through the secure site for a little while today and it worked….then, all of a sudden I am getting the “Page cannot be displayed” message…no matter where I go. I thought I would be smart and try to sign up for Yahoo Messenger since I didn’t have one and try signing in through there and I still get the page cannot be displayed message there too. Do we have any other ideas, because I am completely frusterated that I cannot get into my mail or look at my groups listings. I am a moderator of a few and I cannot even get to them….grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Until Yahoo get around to fixing this, one way you can remedy the situation is by using a proxy. A bit slower, but whatcha gonna do…

    Pick a proxy from http://www.samair.ru/proxy/realtime/index.htm
Most, but not all of the ones that say LIVE work.

Newbie-guide to proxy setup: In Explorer, Tools - Internet options - Connections - Lan Settings

    Hey,

I thought i was the only one getting this error too. And yes, i’ve gotten all those “This page cannot be displayed” messages. It’s damn annoying. I agree with the person up at the top, we should call up our local newspapers and tell them about this, tell them to go to this site and see how many of us we have, without actually knowing how many are out there with this problem. If anyone agree’s with me e-mail me at one_messed_up_child@yahoo.com . If someone finds a way to fix it, please let me know.

P.S. Secure works, but Yahoo! is very slow as of late compared to other sites like it. Does anyone else have this probelm??

It seems to be a problem with internet explorer because if I use another browser on the same computer I don’t have the problem.
Anyway try this it worked for me :
On the YAHOO email site under the ‘SIGN IN’ button there is a ‘Mode’ option. Click the ‘SECURE’ option then try to log in.

  38. Dave Stewart said,

    February 3, 2004 at 2:10 pm

    Another possible fix is:
In Internet Explorer goto ‘Tools’ menu
    ‘Internet Options’
    click on the ‘Security tab’
click on the big green ‘Trusted Sites’ icon
then below that click on the button labeled
    ‘SITES’
A new window will open. At the very bottom of this window is a check box labeled “Require server verification…” make sure this is UNCHECKED.
email me (if you can) at thisisjustforjunkmail@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

I also found that when I signed up for my free Juno email, which seems to be working PERFECTLY by the way, there is a place you can search the web once you login. When you do this, put in yahoomail.com
Then it will bring up a response. Click on that and it will bring you to Yahoo. Click on the secure feature when you log in and I get in every time. Just an idea!!!

I’ve had this problem for a long time. Also I had to start a new account with them for chat because messenger won’t work with my first one anymore. I get a message “invalid login” but my mail usually works. I’ve been using Web2pop for a while too and downloading my mail with a normal pop3 client, I noticed if there’s a lot of messages, (junk mail) and I use Web2pop to get them, After it goes fine for a while, The yahoo server will block my account ((we are unable to process your request at this time)) for 30 minutes. And I have to wait a while and get the rest of the messages later. It seems like they’re tryin to keep me from using it too much. By the way I use the free version of yahoo mail.

I have two Yahoo e-mail accounts. One I can log into and get mail via the web. The other I can’t. Have tried using secure mode that does not work. Will have to try another browser.

However, some links on Yahoo! work fine on the account I can log into. Some do not. Some I get page can’t be displayed. Wondering if cookies have something to do with it. Deleted them and started over. Still same problem. I use SpyBot S&D. Is that a common app here? Servers down at Yahoo? Can’t imagine it would be going on this long.

Hmmm. Maybe a conspiracy by the evil MS Empire . . .

This error message pops up when trying to login to Yahoo Mail and also, Yahoo Groups. Has anyone found a solution to this awful problem?

I switched from IE6 to Netscape7 and everything worked well for about an hour… then the same problem and error message!

I reinstalled XP and everything worked well for about an hour… then the same problem and error message, again!

Standard or Secure modes make no difference. If I wait 4-6 hours, somtimes I can get into the sites, but not always.

Any and all suggestions are VERY welcome and appreciated, thanks.

My problem with Yahoo is 95% of the time I try to access my mail, my system crashes.

I have McAfee Viruscan 8.0; Spy Sweeper and I have used PC Pit Stop and a whole bunch of scans and I am virus free. So what’s the deal? What’s going on in the technological world of viruses and crashing email systems?

P.S anyone experiencing Wkspatch[1], 2 0r 3 or Svchost.exe McAffee warnings? Once deleted they reappear - yet I get scan free results… hum????

If you happen to be using Linux and mozilla, go to the opera website and download the Opera web browser for Linux. Yahoo mail works for me when I use Opera. However, it still does not work for me when I use mozilla.

I have Yahoo!Mail Plus (I pay for it) and over the last couple of weeks the performance of Yahoo!Mail has been terrible! I continuously get page unavailable error messages. Clicking refresh sometimes works, but the servers are acting like they are overloaded. It is near impossible to compose, reply or forward as the page will timeout somewhere along the creation path. Access to my.yahoo.com works fine, as does access to another non-Yahoo webmail account I have. I have relunctantly switched my email over to this other account although I really like all the features of Yahoo!Mail. Yahoo!Addressbook also seems to have some problems too…. Is Yahoo doing anything to improve this situation? There is no mention of “virus” problems or email problems at Yahoo in any news. How do you find out the status of the system at Yahoo!Mail?

I have a strange problem. I type in a message in Yahoomail and hit the send button. Sometimes it confirms that the message was sent, other times it simply gives me a blank new message screen without sending the message.

If I then retype the message it may or not work. I am having to send the same message 3 or 4 times. The same happens on my home (XP Pro) and work (W2000) PCs.

I have the same problem with the Move To Folder and Reply buttons. All other programs work fine, I only have this problem with Yahoomail.

    Any suggestions?

I wrote a lot earlier about my problems with signing in to Yahoo. Moved all my stuff through juno. THEN I joined Yahoo Messenger, and was able to get into mail when it said I had new messages, or through the tools ’send e-mail’, then click on ‘mail’ icon once i got there. everything seems to be working fine and still does. Tried something new today. I use Internet Explorer. Go to Tools. Click on Internet Options, then click on ADVANCED. Check the box ‘Use passive FTP (for firewall and DSL capability)’ and also ‘Use HTTP 1.1 (for proxy connections)’ if that applies to you. Tried that today and then went back and signed in. Got on IMMEDIATELY as if there was never a problem. So, if you are behind a firewall or use DSL, or use proxy connections, this may be the problem that we all have been having. The computer will only do what we tell it to do, and we have to tell our computer that it’s OK to go through the firewall or dsl or proxy connections to access. I was having this problem only on my computer at work (which IS behind a firewall and has proxy connections). I had NO problem going elsewhere and logging on. Try this. It may solve your problems. I hope it works for you. It did for me. Have a GREAT day!

The questionable Yahoo acct will sent out messages ok. Will not receive message when this address is included in outgoing addresses. Has been mal-email functioning since approx 3/25-26 on incoming mail.
No filters set, checked address block, spamguard
wasn’t changed. I have clicked “spam” on some incoming messages recently. Seems like each time
I clicked “spam” on incoming spam, I received fewer of regular expected mail. Until now nothing is coming in.

Like a few other people here, I have had trouble lately composing, replying, and forwarding Yahoo email. It started around the time I installed McAfee Security Suite (ver 6.0) a couple of weeks ago, and I just fixed the problem now.

The problem was that McAfee’s popup blocker thought the “compose” area of the email page was an advertisement. To fix the problem, I opened the McAfee Privacy Service (right click on the McAfee icon in the system tray), followed the “block ads and web bugs” link, then unchecked the box for “Remove ad content from web sites”.

That worked like a charm for me. Hopefully it will help a few others too. Good luck.

this problem happens to me every few weeks now. i had mistakenly bought yahoo mail plus because they had a deal going. you would think the problems would disappear when you’re a paying customer. no way! i’ve been unable to access via web for 3 days and counting. luckily i can check via outlook (but i can’t take advantage of the disposable email addresses for spam — which is great). but i’m probably going to cancel my yahoo mail plus. btw, i tried different browsers, link via chat, secure link, etc, and to no avail. it has worked before, but not this time.

this problem is too commonplace for it to be hushed. let’s get this out in the public .. Information Week Mag, CNet.com, techtv.com, who else?

    Hi folks,

Hrmm… I’ve had Yahoo! Mail Plus for the last two years and have had no trouble connecting, other than around Nov 10 for about a day. (Well, now that I think about it, for the last couple of days when I try to send mail, I get a ‘connection timed out’ but just clicking ’send’ again seems to work fine.)

I almost always use the secure link (which everyone should use, if you don’t want the script kiddies picking up your webmail password). I’ve connected from a variety of browsers–IE, Mozilla, Firefox–and a variety of operating systems–linux, Windows XP, Win2000.

I had major trouble logging into my Yahoo email account today, though I didn’t get the standard, “Sorry but the page is unavailable…” Instead I got a message saying my password was invalid. Tried again, and again, and again. Finally tried their “Request new password” option, but received a message that my account had been deactivated. If I only had the free Yahoo service I wouldn’t really care, but I paid $35 for Yahoo Personal Address, and now I can’t use it. Neither did I get a reason as to why my account was cancelled. I used their Customer “Care” Contact page — FOUR TIMES — but got nothing more than a computer generated response that was no help at all. So I tracked down their phone number. The number is: (408)349-7770. I was told that my account was cancelled because I had violated Yahoo’s Terms of Service agreement, but they wouldn’t specify as to exactly how I breached it. I got transferred to some “supervisor” who was absolutely clueless, and who treated the reason for my cut-off as some secret FBI file. She said she didn’t have specific info regarding which part of the TOS I violated, and that she didn’t know who had the info. She wouldn’t transfer me to her supervisor because he was “unavailable”. How convenient! So for all I know a hacker could have cracked my account password and manipulated my account in a negative way — and I’m being punished for it. Or, perhaps I did violate the TOS, but I have no way of knowing because no one at Yahoo will tell me diddly-squat. If any of you premium Yahoo members have an unsolved problem with them, I suggest you file a claim with the BBB. Yahoo’s customer service is the absolute worst. I tried to be calm with the rep on the phone; I was professional, didn’t cus, etc., but she told me to “shut up” and not to interrupt her, and she accused me of not listening to her. But really, she wasn’t listening to me, nor did she care about helping me.

    Hi Guys,

Firstly, thanks to the man for having this site up. It was nice to know it wasn’t just me that had a problem with these sad gits at yahoo.
I tried EVERYTHING that is posted here and nothing worked.
Still couldn’t get into yahoo mail.
I’ve accessed it through Outlook Express now and have no intention of going back.

    BUT BUT BUT !!!!!!!!!

By complete fluke , I’ve found a way to beat it !!!
I got an email on my AOL account from someone who put a link back to their yahoo address in the body of the message.
Clicked on it and ….VOILA !!
Tried sending myself an email to AOL with my own yahoo address in the text….same thing….straught in !!

    So………..

If you are locked out of yahoo mail….

Send an email to yourself with your yahoo email address as a hyperlink……
Cl;ick on the link and it should get you in !!

Hope this might save someone all the grief I went through.

    Dougie

P.S. I agree that this should be made public.
With Google setting up it’s freemail , yahoo must be sh*tting themselves….might convince them to sort all this out.

I have never had such problem with yahoo until tonight when it happened to me twice. As you know yahoo provides POP access to users for a fee. I did not want to pay this fee and at the same time I was looking for a way to download my e-mails to outlook express. So I found this program called YahooPOPs! which essentially downloads your e-mails from your yahoo mailbox to your outlook express. I set it up and started downloading my mails. Halfway through the process it seemed that the access to my mailbox was blocked. At that time I tried to directly log on to mail.yahoo.com but I got the famous message that everyone is complaining about. After about 15 minutes of trying different things the problem went away as mysteriously as it had appeared! I resumed downloading the e-mails with the YahooPOP software and guess what, yahoo blocked me again! This time I had to wait more than 45 minutes before yahoo changed its mind. So here is my hypothesis (which I am certain yahoo will never confirm):

If you try to get cute with yahoo mail and set a robot to download from it, yahoo will detect and disconnect you. They seem to want you to either log on directly or use their fee-based POP service.

Sounds like I did give an explanation rather than a solution! Anyway, for me the solution was not to set an automatic downloader to get my e-mails. Limit the amount of per second data you download from yahoo or it may detect you as a robot and refuse connection from your PC and IP address.

Again, this is all my opinion and more probably than not, I can be wrong.

Unlike some people who posted their messages here, i dont feel like dumping yahoo. It provides so many cool things….so at times instead of signing IN, i sign UP with a NEW id…just to use yahoo! And Shervin, did u mean the appearance of “sorry, page unavailable…” is due to excessive downloads? or is it that something else happens due to robotic download?

  101. shervin said,

    April 22, 2004 at 10:25 pm

I THINK that when you download a large amount of data in a short time from your yahoo mailbox it assumes you are using a program to retrieve your mails automatically rather than actually logging on to mail.yahoo.com or pay the premium for POP access, which is what they want.

As I said this is just my theory and besides I can see that many other people have had other reasons that prevented them from accessing their mail box, including the use of a proxy. All I’m saying is that it seems that yahoo doesn’t like it when you use a program to download your e-mails and penalizes you by service refusal if they get wind of you doing this.

It is so frustrating, I thought it was due to the way I have my computer hooked up, but now I see by all of your comments we are all upset with this. I can’t believe yahoo is not doing something since there are so many users out there and like you all I like Yahoo’s sights best of all. I have used AOL,MSN and yahoo has always been my favorite.     well well I finally found a bunch of people suffering like me!!! Well for you all information I have been having dumped to yahoo 999 page for email since 2-3 years!! Hehe first i had it with both my yahoo email addresses , then i screamed mails at yahoo for one of them and they are pretty darnm aware of the problem. So eventually my first email was fixed, but by second is still pain in the ass. I tried all tricks since 2-3 years and it takes a while to login mail. secure mode, multiple click s weasling way in through Accounts Info, my.yahoo, Chat rooms, Profiles but never ever immdediately from normal front page i.e mail.yahoo.com. I tried login from maybe 3-4 countries on various systems, hell even changed the com part at end address to abbreviations of various countries. Manipulated caches and so , But the fact is as below;

    a) yahoo knows what the problem is

    b) they damn care and are too lazy to solve it

    C) all you folks send them mails by highliting all above posts and copying into email and sending to yahoo.

d)damn yahoo old geezers stop gobbling beers and get your piles laden rears onto this major issue, or have a stinky demise a la dinasour.

    e) If you yahoo didnt hear me first time., well hell ya get up and solve this issue..

    f) As a sign of protest i have cancelled my working yahoo mail and switched to msn, i use the other one for storage, yeap thats what yahoo has come up to a low down storage bunker!!!

    g) While know all the fatalities and disasters of java script, thank you yahoo for forcing us to swallow that, switching to old version is like commiting crime, always reminded that u are back bench.

    H) I cant believe that u yahoo ppl are scraping money by exposing our beloved consoles to those ugly jackers and intruders, and if you know that mail is spammed with netsky, bloody hell message back to sender not receipient.

    i) i really think that loading with java is dangerous, at least i will credit you that you don’t ceremeniously inject tracker upon exiting like msn does (it will pump tribal fusion as i caught it many times while exiting to msn page from mail)_

    j) i really think you all should email to yahoo’s over gloated geezers that soon we all be switchin them off.

Sorry for writing with so many mistakes hell i am tired at this moment and its night time my place and i was just a while ago dumped to YAHOO999(aka 666 satan) page. Curse you Y mail.

as for emergency fix forget secure mode. If u can login to messanger just click and login from there or else furiously high speed try login in, ( FU, multiple tries won’t get you locked out, as i don’t think all times its possible, maybe once or twice)

Try lowering the MTU (Home/Wan Settings). Start with something like 1352, if it works, move it up until it no longer works, then move it back down. I know it doesn’t sound like it should work but it does.

As my experience as System Administrator in Malaysia about 2 years, i’m facing this problem too…

and now i I have a solutions, maybe you’re using DSL modem with router or maybe this course is from your enterprise that have a proxy firewall such an example ISA firewall. But let make this thing simple, So the best way is try lowering the MTU.
What is MTU? MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) is the maximum size of each packet sent (in octets).

If you’re using DSL Modem with Router
The MTU can be found on web-based configuration just an example on Aztech DSL modem is http://starmodem or http://192.168.1.1
    1. Go in the Expert Mode
    2. in Wan Connections. u saw PPP WAN uplink. Click Edit.
    3. Click Edit ‘Ip Interface’
    4. now u will find the MTU. Change it to 1350.
    5. Click Change

That is based on Aztech DSL Modem, but i think it’s a same concept on other brand.. I hope u all can solve this problem..
Now u can check ur yahoo mail without clicking the secure site. :)

p/s : about the MTU, u can put it higher if u like, but try to experiment it if it work when using yahoo mail.. until u get the best MTU. Credit also to anon for sharing ideas. :)

Every Time that I try to access my yahoo e-mail
account, a page comes up that reads:

Yahoo!-999 This page is currently unavailable
Unfortunately, we are unable to process your
request at this time. We apologize for the
    inconvenience. Please try again later.

And later…hours, days…I do try again, to NO
AVAIL. What’s going on? One moment, I was reading
my e-mail, and then, for NO apparent reason, it
wiped me out and I couldn’t get back into my e-mail account?

Above, I posted a complaint about Yahoo!-999 and
not being able to get back into my yahoo e-mail
    account.
I tryed just about everything, with no results.
    Then while I was…’once again’…on the sign-in
page, I clicked on the secure tab and bingo, I
was FINALLY able to get into my e-mail account.
So, needless to say, you might want to give it a
    try.

help please, my wife can only log onto her e-mail. once she gets the message, welcome sofia, the mail box locks up and she can not open her folders, or sign out or compose. all she can do is click on the red “x” at the top to get out of the page. her address is “sabecassis@yahoo.com” and her i.d. is: sabecassis, but once she gets into the box that is it. however i have a yahoo mail box as well and mine works fine. what is wrong with her mail box that it keeps hanging up?
once in a while it will let her go to the inbox and she opens one e-mail and then it hangs up.
this is a real pain and we would like yahoo to correct but i can not seem to get hold of anyone.

I have 3 yahoo accounts, one of which is a paid account. Since early this morning, I have had little to no success accessing any of them. What little access I’ve had won’t allow me to respond to emails and the whole program just freezes up. It would be nice if they’d acknowledge the problem and let users know what they are doing to fix it and how long it will take.

Next Issue: My yahoo messenger does not work. No log in… The tracert to their (mail.yahoo.com) works. (206.109.127.60). There is a serious latency at the last hop. Maybe they’re going through some sort of DoS attack…?

what i want to know is if this thing, this problem, is affecting EVERYONE (or most) with a Yahoo!Mail account. if some people can acces their mail, i wonder what the difference is betweem “us & them”! as far as i know, i’m all there with recent updates. someone suggested that it could be the sheer volume of people just clambering to get hold of a free 100mb Yahoo mail account. i’ve done Internet searches on this & i can’t really find much info about these problems - except this nice little forum where we the people can vent our frustrations… & i wish i knew more than speculation… & Yahoo! seems to be doing a PR blackout.

Our e-mail comes in with a GIGANTIC FONT OR TYPE SIZE, so big that it scrawlS across the screen so that we lose all sense of what is being said as we try to read it. Needless to say both of us have sent countless messages to Yahoo with no answer!
Does anyone know what is going on?? This happened right after we were notified of the wonderful new “enhancements.”
We’d be very grateful for any help since it’s futile to look to Yahoo for help.

As others have expressed, I’m glad to know it wasn’t just me experiencing problems with my Yahoo! Mail account. I have been unable to get to my email for many days now. I can actually log in, but once I get to the page that tells me of all the “wonderful” enhancement and click on the “Continue to Yahoo!Mail” button, it times out and I get a “Page cannot be displayed” error.

Off of that enhancement page is a link to their Help page from which I sent many pleas for help and never received a response. Low and behold, I got one last night. I was shocked (it went to another email I listed when submitting my form). I still can’t get to my email, but just thought I’d share with you what their response was:

Well here I am again. Yahoo uk mail back to gibberish. It worked for about a day. Storage size took a couple of days to increase.

Back to either displaying as programming script or graphic buttons display. One or two occasions managed to make sense of a couple of downloads before went off again.

I can confirm that as a free subscriber there is absolutely no customer service. In one or two years I have never received a reply from them.

Yahoo uk tv satellite channels been out of date for months. Cannot update my Yahoo to show correct channels.

Maybe everyone should get together and contact the advertisers and tell them they are paying for a crap service that probably does NOT work more than it does, with no way of recording problems. Advertisers should demand an immediate refund unless Yahoo addresses its inadequecies straight away.

I also keep getting an error message when in yahoo mail or messenger.Something to the tune of Visual basic C+++ runtime error and internet explorer has to close down.

5 days without a glimpse of my inbox and counting! “New and improved Yahoo! Mail - better than ever!” ???? - they are definitely having a laugh!
Still no official word on the matter, which is pretty poor. Customer Care has certainly passed them by - maybe it’s just a sign on the door of an empty office - seems that way! Brandy, thanks for enlightening us with the reply you were sent, replies from Yahoo are like gold dust it seems, maybe you should frame it, could be a valuable antique in the future!
They probably think we have no right to complain because many of us are taking advantage of a free ’service’, but obviously paying customers receive little or mostly no extra for the ‘privilege’ of paying.
How nice would it be if they actually told people what was going on?!

  161. Randy said,

    June 21, 2004 at 6:58 am

    Ok folks…. here’s what I found…

I just started having the ‘page cannot display’ problem and found that it’s resolved by using a proxy. Enough said for experienced users.

For those of you who are saying ‘huh?’, read on…

a proxy acts as a middle man, passing your requests on to a web server. This means that the web server thinks it’s the proxy making a request, not your IP. The proxy forwards the response from the web server back to your PC.

Your ISP says it’s not their problem cause they are working fine. Yahoo says it’s not their problem cause their mail server, is indeed, operating fine.

If this resolution works for you, then it means that Yahoo won’t accept requests from your IP, maybe because they believe you are a spam server (that’s just a guess).

One last thing - you can find proxy servers by searching the net for ‘proxies’. And keep in mind that not all proxies will work, especially if Yahoo has the proxy’s IP blocked. To update IE with your proxy, go into IE’s Internet
Options….Connections…. LAN Settings….and at the bottom under Proxy
Settings, click ‘use a proxy server for your LAN’ and fill in the address & port of the proxy server (I used 216.49.160.199 as a proxy with a port of 80)

    Good luck to all!

Minor breakthrough earlier. I actually managed to get to the welcome page at 3PM UK time and after several attempts managed to get into the inbox, but couldn’t open any messages. I had 2 messages from Yahoo about the problem but couldn’t get into the first to read it. After many tries, I finally managed to get into the second, which was a feedback request asking me to follow a link to fill out a form stating what I thought of the new ‘improved’(????) Yahoo mail and to advise of the problems I’d been having, but the link didn’t work and since then I have been getting the same page of symbols as before each time (Maybe their swear filter knew what I was going to say and chickened out!). Seems that they may be making progress, albeit very slowly. The problem definitely lies with Yahoo.
My only advice is to keep firing off those error reports, every day, twice a day if need be, as this seems to get them moving a bit.
At least I managed to get into the inbox to see who had written to me, so thankfully I can contact the senders via msn instead to let them know not to send anything to my Yahoo mail for the time being. If I do manage to get into the feedback form at some point, I will try to let them know about this page so that they can see for themselves the different problems everyone’s mentioned & how fed up we all are with their lack of information etc.

So I contacted Comcast about the problem Monday 11 AM eastern time. They totally deny that it is their problem. The curious thing is that I can access the yahoo mail if I hook my computer directly to the modem, but if I am trying to access it through my router it times out and gives me the usual error page. The rest of my internet works fine when connected to the router, and I can access hotmail and ebay. Does anyone know a way that I can fix this???

  167. Jayne said,

    June 21, 2004 at 10:27 am

To be honest, I don’t think it has too much to do with Comcast, think it’s just an issue with Yahoo themselves. I’m in the UK and do not use Comcast and I’m still having the same problems as everyone. There seems to be a few variations in what people are experiencing, some people managing to get in but not be able to use certain features, some people can’t get in at all. Some resolutions seem to work for some people but not for others, for example, some have found that if they switch to using dial-up instead of BB they can get in, I only have dial-up but I can’t get in. Think it’s just a case of Yahoo getting themselves sorted out, then hopefully all these problems should disappear.

  168. Dave said,

    June 21, 2004 at 11:46 am

This would be getting funny if it weren’t so annoying. When I contacted Comcast, they did seem to indicate that it was (at least partly) their problem. Here’s the response:

We apologize for the inconvenience of this Yahoo issue.

This Yahoo issue is a known issue that we are currently looking into.
The problem is more than likely an update issue of some sort (possibly
DNS) between our two services that will self-correct on your end when
    complete.

If you have a router, disconnect it and connect one computer directly
into the cable modem. Unplug the modem from its source of power for one
minute then plug it back in. Reboot your computer. Try accessing things
    again.

If the above doesn’t help resolve your problem, try accessing Yahoo
    directly via its IP address.

If that doesn’t work, you will have to wait for resolution on this end.
Engineers are working towards resolution right now. Unfortunately, I
have no estimated date/time for resolution.

If you have any additional questions or concerns related to this matter,
    please contact us at 1-800-COMCAST.

I figured out the problem with my mail. Yahoo was innocent in this case. I had accidently unchecked Yahoo Messengers Protocol Helper in IE. Simple as that. So anyone still having the same problem, it’s something to check.

I also got a reply from Yahoo Help, they do try. They told me to upgrade my browsers. :)

I too had foll problem using I.E 6: Yahoo Mails Delete button dosen’t work.
I have Spyware, Zonealarm blocking Popups and resticting IE changes.

    Doing foll will fix it:
