Case Study: Add online ordering system to a website

Business problem: Jodar Farms raises chickens and pigs for direct sale to consumers.  For both pork and chicken purchases, the customer fills out a paper order form and mails it in with a check.

The farm wanted to increase sales.  Additionally, depending on how the customer filled out the order form, there was sometimes back and forth to clarify requests–blank information or bad handwriting, and Jodar wanted to decrease this back and forth if possible.

Role: Moore Consulting was the primary contractor on the project to allow Jodar Farms to take orders for pork shares online.

Solution: Moore Consulting built an online system which allowed consumers to fill out all the needed data.  The form had validation, so that fewer clarification emails were needed.  After evaluating alternatives, Stripe was chosen as the data provider due to ease of use and compliance.  Admin data download functionality was also built, so that all user data could be pulled at once.  Administrators and customers were notified of orders by email.

Results: More than $4500 of deposits were taken using the new system in the first 6 months, corresponding to approximately $15000 in additional revenue. The owner estimated that between 25 and 50 percent of these orders simply wouldn’t have happened with the old system.
