{"id":586,"date":"2010-06-23T08:09:15","date_gmt":"2010-06-23T14:09:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/archives\/000586"},"modified":"2010-06-23T08:10:17","modified_gmt":"2010-06-23T14:10:17","slug":"piwik-now-has-goals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/archives\/586","title":{"rendered":"Piwik now has goals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About a year ago, I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/archives\/000534\">wrote<\/a> about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piwik.org\">piwik<\/a>, a replacement for javascript based analytics tools like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/analytics\/\">Google Analytics<\/a>.\u00a0 I installed it on a couple of my sites, and have been <a href=\"http:\/\/piwik.org\/changelog\/\">watching it progress<\/a> with regular updates.\u00a0 As of the latest version (0.6.3), they now have goals!\u00a0 To me, that is one of the key features of any analytics tool.\u00a0 Now you can have the analysis and not have to share it with anyone else (though you do have to update and maintain the software yourself, unless you use a site like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myfreewebstats.com\/\">My Free Web Stats<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>After enabling the goal plugin, I set up a quick goal to track commenting on my blog (or at least if someone clicks the submit button on the comment form).\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/piwik.org\/docs\/tracking-goals-web-analytics\/\">basic documentation on goal tracking<\/a> doesn&#8217;t discuss how to do this, though it does cover url based tracking pretty well.\u00a0 A quick search turned up this page, which explains how to <a href=\"http:\/\/piwik.org\/docs\/javascript-tracking\/\">write the javascript to track a goal manually<\/a> (which I then placed in an onclick handler).\u00a0 This <a href=\"http:\/\/dev.piwik.org\/trac\/ticket\/604\">bug post<\/a> on goal tracking via links may be useful too.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m happy to see a well done open source alternative to analytics tools that lets you control your data.\u00a0 Piwik probably won&#8217;t be of interest to many people (most will just drop in Google Analytics and call it good), but for a few may be indispensible.\u00a0 And support for goals is a key part of the maturation of this project.<\/p>\n<p>[tags]piwik,goals,opensource,analytics[\/tags]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About a year ago, I wrote about piwik, a replacement for javascript based analytics tools like Google Analytics.\u00a0 I installed it on a couple of my sites, and have been [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[33],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-586","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-useful-tools"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/586","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=586"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/586\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=586"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=586"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=586"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
