{"id":2111,"date":"2015-10-03T20:36:29","date_gmt":"2015-10-04T02:36:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/?p=2111"},"modified":"2015-10-03T20:36:29","modified_gmt":"2015-10-04T02:36:29","slug":"launching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2111","title":{"rendered":"Launching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, I <a href=\"http:\/\/farmshares.info\/\">launched<\/a> a partial rewrite of a long running side project connecting people to farm shares.\u00a0 Over the past few months I&#8217;d fixed a few pressing bugs and overhauled the software so that a site and data model that previously supported only cities and zips as geographic features now supported states as well.<\/p>\n<p>For the past week I&#8217;d been hemming and hawing about when to release&#8211;fixing &#8220;just one more thing&#8221; or tweaking one last bit.<\/p>\n<p>But yesterday I finally bit the bullet and released.\u00a0 Of course, there were a couple of issues that I hadn&#8217;t addressed that only showed up in production.\u00a0 But after squashing those bugs, I completed a few more tasks: moving over SEO (as best as I can) and social accounts, making sure that key features and content hadn&#8217;t been thrown overboard, and checking the logs to make sure that users are finding what they need.<\/p>\n<p>Why was I so reticent to release?\u00a0 It&#8217;s a big step, shipping something, but in some ways it&#8217;s the only step that matters.\u00a0 I was afraid that I&#8217;d forget something, screw things up, make a mistake.\u00a0 And of course, I didn&#8217;t want to take a site that helped a couple thousand people a month find local food options that work for them and ruin it.\u00a0 I wasn&#8217;t sure I&#8217;d have time to support the new site.\u00a0 I wanted the new site to have as close to feature parity as possible.\u00a0 I worked on the old site for five years, and a lot of features crept in (as well as external dependencies, corners of the site that google and users have found, but I had forgotten).<\/p>\n<p>All good reasons to think before I leapt.<\/p>\n<p>But you can only plan for so much.\u00a0 At some point you just have to ship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, I launched a partial rewrite of a long running side project connecting people to farm shares.\u00a0 Over the past few months I&#8217;d fixed a few pressing bugs and overhauled [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[72],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2111","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-side-project"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2111","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2111"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2111\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2112,"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2111\/revisions\/2112"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2111"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2111"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.mooreds.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2111"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
