Yahoo! mail problems

One of my clients had a problem earlier today. I helped them choose a new email setup, and they went with Yahoo Business Edition Mail. It's worked like a charm for them until today. Oh, sure, they've had to adjust their business processes a bit, but it was a vast improvement over their previous situation, where only allowed one person in to view his or her mailbox at a time. And it's quite low maintenance and fairly easy to learn, as it was entirely browser based.

But today, the web client for Yahoo! was busted. New layouts, new colors, old functionality gone, intermittent changes in the GUI, the whole bit. I got on the phone with Yahoo! support, and they assured me it was simply a webmail client problem. No mail was being lost. But, as Joel explains, for most folks, the interface is the program. You try explaining the difference between SMTP and POP and mail storage and local clients to an insurance agent who just wants to send her customers an application.

One of the worst bits is that, other than getting on the phone with Yahoo! support, there was absolutely nothing I could do to fix the problem. Alright, this isn't entirely true--I could have worked on migrating them off the web client, and perhaps off Yahoo! entirely. And, had the outage continued, I probably would have begun that process. But fixing the web client was entirely out of my hands. That's the joy and the pain of outsourcing, right? The problems aren't yours to fix (yay!) but you can't fix the problems yourself (boo!). Also, chances are the outsourcing provider is never going to be more enthusiastic than you about fixing your problems, and might be significantly less.

Thanks for the link to Joel. I really loved the iceberg analogy.

When login in Yahoo mail, most of the times appears the following message:"This page is currently unavailable. Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again later.". I'm not able to solve this problem yet.

sign in through chat and than click on mail link at the top of the page. I have the same prob. and this is what i have to do every time.

I also have that problem - but with all Yahoo related sites including Chat and Geocities. At first clearing out my temp int folder (including cookies) worked like a charm... but now that doesn't even work!

The very day I finally ditched AOL and decided to start relying solely on my Yahoo! free mail I began to get this message. Some luch, huh? Googled the error message and found this forum. The logging in through Chat seems to be working for now. Thank you for this advice.

Is Yahoo! even aware of -- or working to resolve -- this very serious issue??

Posted by: john at January 4, 2004 09:32 AM | Permalink

Hey, I thought I was alone with the yahoo sign in problem... nothing on the net about it.

I too was able to access the account by going through the chat sign in.

I am local to yahoo's home turf and tried to call them but they won't take calls on free services like mail, chat etc...

I am trying to access my yahoo mail here in the uk, but I only got this message this morning and evening:

"Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again later."

Yahoo does not post any information on what this trubble is caused by.

Frustrating.

I've had the same Yahoo email sign-in problem for over a month now. I thought I had all my computer problems solved when I got the "Drive Switch"(great product) from e-bay stores, but this email thing is really frustrating. I emailed Yahoo and got a message from some auditor wondering how well my problem was handled. I answered that I never got an answer from Yahoo. Now I can't find the place I "clicked on" to mail Yahoo. They probably wouldn't answer anyway. They must be working on their site. I've seen this in the past with other sites, where they are "upgrading" but don't tell you to be patient or whatever. They just leave you hanging!!!!!!

Looks like someone should teach them a lesson and publish this (lack of customer service) in the newspapers--like Business Week, what do you say?

Well, look at this, I thought we werer the only ones with this problem."Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again later." Seems not. Except I dont have this problem yet. My mother does though. I can still get into my mail, my mom cant on the same computer, through Yahoo? I dont understand. I am no fundi, Is the system crashing????????

I've been having the same problem. I found that if I go to signin and click the secure link under the signin button I can get in. For some reason I can't access yahoo profiles either... yahoo is a pain!

Well, well, well! MORE people with the same difficulty. I have been unable to access my e-mail since Christmas Eve. It's been very frustrating, getting the same message you all have: 'Sorry, the page is UNAVAILABLE.' Even more frustrating is finding the proper link to contact Yahoo about the problem. Finally called them--OOPS! for 'free' users, we can only use the automated service. Used the automated service and got the response: 'It's not OUR problem. Contact your internet service provider or your system administrator. I contacted the ISP. Their response: "Sorry, things are fine here. It's not OUR problem.' Contacted the system administrator. Their response: 'Sorry, everything is fine here. It's not OUR problem.'
Well, it's SOMEBODY'S PROBLEM!!!! What is equally frustrating is, I can go to somebody else's computer and get on fine, but can't do it on my own computer. So, if I want to access all of my e-mail addresses, I have to go somewhere else. My response: I've gone elsewhere. I've set up a new e-mail address at JUNO, and things are working FINE, thank you very much!

I am facing the exact same problem when I try to access Yahoo mail and Yahoo groups. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I couldn't find a link to mail them about the problem either.

Posted by: ravi at January 23, 2004 05:20 PM | Permalink

I had the same problem. I think it's Yahoo! trying to get people to sign up with their better service.

P.S. The secure button link works great for me.

Posted by: Elizabeth at January 24, 2004 05:49 AM | Permalink

I've been having the same problem, along with some thousands of people it seems.

My problem is with yahoo groups, but the error message is the same.

I believe this has to do something with some anti-spam action taken by Yahoo. If there are too many requests from the same IP, then that IP will be locked down for about 24 hrs or so. If you share IP with other surfers, then you might be suffering for the sins of others.

As an experiment I built a html page with links to 50 yahoo groups join pages in iframe tags. When I load this page from my harddrive, I always get locked out after about 15-30 join-pages have loaded.

You can work around the problem, either by setting up a http proxy under your LAN settings in Internet Explorer, or you could talk to your ISP about getting your own personal IP.

Good luck

Another frustrated yahoo user. This needs to be fixed. For now, everyone just use the secure sign in option. It works fine.

Is there such a thing as a yahoo support ? Would be good to get some kind of official statement on this. Since I'm mainly interested in yahoo groups, the secure sign in option doesn't do me much good.

Ok, so I am having the same problem, obviously, or I wouldn't be here. But I went in and I went through the secure site for a little while today and it worked....then, all of a sudden I am getting the "Page cannot be displayed" message...no matter where I go. I thought I would be smart and try to sign up for Yahoo Messenger since I didn't have one and try signing in through there and I still get the page cannot be displayed message there too. Do we have any other ideas, because I am completely frusterated that I cannot get into my mail or look at my groups listings. I am a moderator of a few and I cannot even get to them....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Until Yahoo get around to fixing this, one way you can remedy the situation is by using a proxy. A bit slower, but whatcha gonna do...

Pick a proxy from http://www.samair.ru/proxy/realtime/index.htm
Most, but not all of the ones that say LIVE work.

Newbie-guide to proxy setup: In Explorer, Tools - Internet options - Connections - Lan Settings

Hey,

I thought i was the only one getting this error too. And yes, i've gotten all those "This page cannot be displayed" messages. It's damn annoying. I agree with the person up at the top, we should call up our local newspapers and tell them about this, tell them to go to this site and see how many of us we have, without actually knowing how many are out there with this problem. If anyone agree's with me e-mail me at one_messed_up_child@yahoo.com . If someone finds a way to fix it, please let me know.

P.S. Secure works, but Yahoo! is very slow as of late compared to other sites like it. Does anyone else have this probelm??

It seems to be a problem with internet explorer because if I use another browser on the same computer I don't have the problem.
Anyway try this it worked for me :
On the YAHOO email site under the 'SIGN IN' button there is a 'Mode' option. Click the 'SECURE' option then try to log in.

Posted by: Dave Stewart at February 3, 2004 01:40 PM | Permalink

Another possible fix is:
In Internet Explorer goto 'Tools' menu
'Internet Options'
click on the 'Security tab'
click on the big green 'Trusted Sites' icon
then below that click on the button labeled
'SITES'
A new window will open. At the very bottom of this window is a check box labeled "Require server verification..." make sure this is UNCHECKED.
email me (if you can) at thisisjustforjunkmail@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

Posted by: Dave Stewart at February 3, 2004 02:10 PM | Permalink

I also found that when I signed up for my free Juno email, which seems to be working PERFECTLY by the way, there is a place you can search the web once you login. When you do this, put in yahoomail.com
Then it will bring up a response. Click on that and it will bring you to Yahoo. Click on the secure feature when you log in and I get in every time. Just an idea!!!

Shocked to see so many people having the same problem, but no official report has been published.

I tried all the solutions provided in this forum. Tried using the yahoo! chat, unchecked 'Required Server Certification', tried using the secure site and even changed my proxy settings suggested here. Nothing seem to working!!

I've had this problem for a long time. Also I had to start a new account with them for chat because messenger won't work with my first one anymore. I get a message "invalid login" but my mail usually works. I've been using Web2pop for a while too and downloading my mail with a normal pop3 client, I noticed if there's a lot of messages, (junk mail) and I use Web2pop to get them, After it goes fine for a while, The yahoo server will block my account ((we are unable to process your request at this time)) for 30 minutes. And I have to wait a while and get the rest of the messages later. It seems like they're tryin to keep me from using it too much. By the way I use the free version of yahoo mail.

I have two Yahoo e-mail accounts. One I can log into and get mail via the web. The other I can't. Have tried using secure mode that does not work. Will have to try another browser.

However, some links on Yahoo! work fine on the account I can log into. Some do not. Some I get page can't be displayed. Wondering if cookies have something to do with it. Deleted them and started over. Still same problem. I use SpyBot S&D. Is that a common app here? Servers down at Yahoo? Can't imagine it would be going on this long.

Hmmm. Maybe a conspiracy by the evil MS Empire . . .

This error message pops up when trying to login to Yahoo Mail and also, Yahoo Groups. Has anyone found a solution to this awful problem?

I switched from IE6 to Netscape7 and everything worked well for about an hour... then the same problem and error message!

I reinstalled XP and everything worked well for about an hour... then the same problem and error message, again!

Standard or Secure modes make no difference. If I wait 4-6 hours, somtimes I can get into the sites, but not always.

Any and all suggestions are VERY welcome and appreciated, thanks.

My problem with Yahoo is 95% of the time I try to access my mail, my system crashes.

I have McAfee Viruscan 8.0; Spy Sweeper and I have used PC Pit Stop and a whole bunch of scans and I am virus free. So what's the deal? What's going on in the technological world of viruses and crashing email systems?

P.S anyone experiencing Wkspatch[1], 2 0r 3 or Svchost.exe McAffee warnings? Once deleted they reappear - yet I get scan free results... hum????

I have Yahoo!Mail Plus (I pay for it) and over the last couple of weeks the performance of Yahoo!Mail has been terrible! I continuously get page unavailable error messages. Clicking refresh sometimes works, but the servers are acting like they are overloaded. It is near impossible to compose, reply or forward as the page will timeout somewhere along the creation path. Access to my.yahoo.com works fine, as does access to another non-Yahoo webmail account I have. I have relunctantly switched my email over to this other account although I really like all the features of Yahoo!Mail. Yahoo!Addressbook also seems to have some problems too.... Is Yahoo doing anything to improve this situation? There is no mention of "virus" problems or email problems at Yahoo in any news. How do you find out the status of the system at Yahoo!Mail?

I have a strange problem. I type in a message in Yahoomail and hit the send button. Sometimes it confirms that the message was sent, other times it simply gives me a blank new message screen without sending the message.

If I then retype the message it may or not work. I am having to send the same message 3 or 4 times. The same happens on my home (XP Pro) and work (W2000) PCs.

I have the same problem with the Move To Folder and Reply buttons. All other programs work fine, I only have this problem with Yahoomail.

Any suggestions?

I wrote a lot earlier about my problems with signing in to Yahoo. Moved all my stuff through juno. THEN I joined Yahoo Messenger, and was able to get into mail when it said I had new messages, or through the tools 'send e-mail', then click on 'mail' icon once i got there. everything seems to be working fine and still does. Tried something new today. I use Internet Explorer. Go to Tools. Click on Internet Options, then click on ADVANCED. Check the box 'Use passive FTP (for firewall and DSL capability)' and also 'Use HTTP 1.1 (for proxy connections)' if that applies to you. Tried that today and then went back and signed in. Got on IMMEDIATELY as if there was never a problem. So, if you are behind a firewall or use DSL, or use proxy connections, this may be the problem that we all have been having. The computer will only do what we tell it to do, and we have to tell our computer that it's OK to go through the firewall or dsl or proxy connections to access. I was having this problem only on my computer at work (which IS behind a firewall and has proxy connections). I had NO problem going elsewhere and logging on. Try this. It may solve your problems. I hope it works for you. It did for me. Have a GREAT day!

Yahoo!mail, unable to receive incoming email messages, except for some meds spam. I have sent email to my Yahoo address with other yahoo acct, hotmail, & netzero accts = nothing received. The questionable Yahoo acct will sent out messages ok. Will not receive message when this address is included in outgoing addresses. Has been mal-email functioning since approx 3/25-26 on incoming mail.
No filters set, checked address block, spamguard
wasn't changed. I have clicked "spam" on some incoming messages recently. Seems like each time
I clicked "spam" on incoming spam, I received fewer of regular expected mail. Until now nothing is coming in.
Any ideas?????

Like a few other people here, I have had trouble lately composing, replying, and forwarding Yahoo email. It started around the time I installed McAfee Security Suite (ver 6.0) a couple of weeks ago, and I just fixed the problem now.

The problem was that McAfee's popup blocker thought the "compose" area of the email page was an advertisement. To fix the problem, I opened the McAfee Privacy Service (right click on the McAfee icon in the system tray), followed the "block ads and web bugs" link, then unchecked the box for "Remove ad content from web sites".

That worked like a charm for me. Hopefully it will help a few others too. Good luck.

I had the same problem...I used the solution of going to Tools...Internet Options...Connections...LAN settings...then unchecked everything. I just hope that this does not mess something else up...The alternative is to use Netscape.

this problem happens to me every few weeks now. i had mistakenly bought yahoo mail plus because they had a deal going. you would think the problems would disappear when you're a paying customer. no way! i've been unable to access via web for 3 days and counting. luckily i can check via outlook (but i can't take advantage of the disposable email addresses for spam -- which is great). but i'm probably going to cancel my yahoo mail plus. btw, i tried different browsers, link via chat, secure link, etc, and to no avail. it has worked before, but not this time.

this problem is too commonplace for it to be hushed. let's get this out in the public .. Information Week Mag, CNet.com, techtv.com, who else?

i don't know if anyone's answered this...but when i want to write or respond to an email, everything shows up BUT the textbox where i'm supposed to write. when i minimize it and bring it back up, the background shows through that box and when i scroll up and down, there's lag. i can't even click on the box. refreshing the page and restarting my computer don't help. i don't know what to do...perhaps i have some kind of virus?

i would really appreciate your help! thanks!

Hi folks,

Hrmm... I've had Yahoo! Mail Plus for the last two years and have had no trouble connecting, other than around Nov 10 for about a day. (Well, now that I think about it, for the last couple of days when I try to send mail, I get a 'connection timed out' but just clicking 'send' again seems to work fine.)

I almost always use the secure link (which everyone should use, if you don't want the script kiddies picking up your webmail password). I've connected from a variety of browsers--IE, Mozilla, Firefox--and a variety of operating systems--linux, Windows XP, Win2000.

I had major trouble logging into my Yahoo email account today, though I didn't get the standard, "Sorry but the page is unavailable..." Instead I got a message saying my password was invalid. Tried again, and again, and again. Finally tried their "Request new password" option, but received a message that my account had been deactivated. If I only had the free Yahoo service I wouldn't really care, but I paid $35 for Yahoo Personal Address, and now I can't use it. Neither did I get a reason as to why my account was cancelled. I used their Customer "Care" Contact page -- FOUR TIMES -- but got nothing more than a computer generated response that was no help at all. So I tracked down their phone number. The number is: (408)349-7770. I was told that my account was cancelled because I had violated Yahoo's Terms of Service agreement, but they wouldn't specify as to exactly how I breached it. I got transferred to some "supervisor" who was absolutely clueless, and who treated the reason for my cut-off as some secret FBI file. She said she didn't have specific info regarding which part of the TOS I violated, and that she didn't know who had the info. She wouldn't transfer me to her supervisor because he was "unavailable". How convenient! So for all I know a hacker could have cracked my account password and manipulated my account in a negative way -- and I'm being punished for it. Or, perhaps I did violate the TOS, but I have no way of knowing because no one at Yahoo will tell me diddly-squat. If any of you premium Yahoo members have an unsolved problem with them, I suggest you file a claim with the BBB. Yahoo's customer service is the absolute worst. I tried to be calm with the rep on the phone; I was professional, didn't cus, etc., but she told me to "shut up" and not to interrupt her, and she accused me of not listening to her. But really, she wasn't listening to me, nor did she care about helping me.

Hi Guys,

Firstly, thanks to the man for having this site up. It was nice to know it wasn't just me that had a problem with these sad gits at yahoo.
I tried EVERYTHING that is posted here and nothing worked.
Still couldn't get into yahoo mail.
I've accessed it through Outlook Express now and have no intention of going back.

BUT BUT BUT !!!!!!!!!

By complete fluke , I've found a way to beat it !!!
I got an email on my AOL account from someone who put a link back to their yahoo address in the body of the message.
Clicked on it and ....VOILA !!
Tried sending myself an email to AOL with my own yahoo address in the text....same thing....straught in !!

So...........

If you are locked out of yahoo mail....

Send an email to yourself with your yahoo email address as a hyperlink......
Cl;ick on the link and it should get you in !!

Hope this might save someone all the grief I went through.

Dougie

P.S. I agree that this should be made public.
With Google setting up it's freemail , yahoo must be sh*tting themselves....might convince them to sort all this out.

I have never had such problem with yahoo until tonight when it happened to me twice. As you know yahoo provides POP access to users for a fee. I did not want to pay this fee and at the same time I was looking for a way to download my e-mails to outlook express. So I found this program called YahooPOPs! which essentially downloads your e-mails from your yahoo mailbox to your outlook express. I set it up and started downloading my mails. Halfway through the process it seemed that the access to my mailbox was blocked. At that time I tried to directly log on to mail.yahoo.com but I got the famous message that everyone is complaining about. After about 15 minutes of trying different things the problem went away as mysteriously as it had appeared! I resumed downloading the e-mails with the YahooPOP software and guess what, yahoo blocked me again! This time I had to wait more than 45 minutes before yahoo changed its mind. So here is my hypothesis (which I am certain yahoo will never confirm):

If you try to get cute with yahoo mail and set a robot to download from it, yahoo will detect and disconnect you. They seem to want you to either log on directly or use their fee-based POP service.

Sounds like I did give an explanation rather than a solution! Anyway, for me the solution was not to set an automatic downloader to get my e-mails. Limit the amount of per second data you download from yahoo or it may detect you as a robot and refuse connection from your PC and IP address.

Again, this is all my opinion and more probably than not, I can be wrong.

Posted by: shervin at April 22, 2004 02:35 AM | Permalink

Unlike some people who posted their messages here, i dont feel like dumping yahoo. It provides so many cool things....so at times instead of signing IN, i sign UP with a NEW id...just to use yahoo! And Shervin, did u mean the appearance of "sorry, page unavailable..." is due to excessive downloads? or is it that something else happens due to robotic download?

Posted by: H.H. at April 22, 2004 09:17 AM | Permalink

I THINK that when you download a large amount of data in a short time from your yahoo mailbox it assumes you are using a program to retrieve your mails automatically rather than actually logging on to mail.yahoo.com or pay the premium for POP access, which is what they want.

As I said this is just my theory and besides I can see that many other people have had other reasons that prevented them from accessing their mail box, including the use of a proxy. All I'm saying is that it seems that yahoo doesn't like it when you use a program to download your e-mails and penalizes you by service refusal if they get wind of you doing this.

I have been getting the unavailable for 2 weeks now and only when it says I have new messages can I get in. I am internet connected by netzero which is powered by Yahoo. It is so frustrating, I thought it was due to the way I have my computer hooked up, but now I see by all of your comments we are all upset with this. I can't believe yahoo is not doing something since there are so many users out there and like you all I like Yahoo's sights best of all. I have used AOL,MSN and yahoo has always been my favorite. I hope we all can get this resolved.

well well I finally found a bunch of people suffering like me!!! Well for you all information I have been having dumped to yahoo 999 page for email since 2-3 years!! Hehe first i had it with both my yahoo email addresses , then i screamed mails at yahoo for one of them and they are pretty darnm aware of the problem. So eventually my first email was fixed, but by second is still pain in the ass. I tried all tricks since 2-3 years and it takes a while to login mail. secure mode, multiple click s weasling way in through Accounts Info, my.yahoo, Chat rooms, Profiles but never ever immdediately from normal front page i.e mail.yahoo.com. I tried login from maybe 3-4 countries on various systems, hell even changed the com part at end address to abbreviations of various countries. Manipulated caches and so , But the fact is as below;

a) yahoo knows what the problem is

b) they damn care and are too lazy to solve it

C) all you folks send them mails by highliting all above posts and copying into email and sending to yahoo.

d)damn yahoo old geezers stop gobbling beers and get your piles laden rears onto this major issue, or have a stinky demise a la dinasour.

e) If you yahoo didnt hear me first time., well hell ya get up and solve this issue..

f) As a sign of protest i have cancelled my working yahoo mail and switched to msn, i use the other one for storage, yeap thats what yahoo has come up to a low down storage bunker!!!

g) While know all the fatalities and disasters of java script, thank you yahoo for forcing us to swallow that, switching to old version is like commiting crime, always reminded that u are back bench.

H) I cant believe that u yahoo ppl are scraping money by exposing our beloved consoles to those ugly jackers and intruders, and if you know that mail is spammed with netsky, bloody hell message back to sender not receipient.

i) i really think that loading with java is dangerous, at least i will credit you that you don't ceremeniously inject tracker upon exiting like msn does (it will pump tribal fusion as i caught it many times while exiting to msn page from mail)_

j) i really think you all should email to yahoo's over gloated geezers that soon we all be switchin them off.

Sorry for writing with so many mistakes hell i am tired at this moment and its night time my place and i was just a while ago dumped to YAHOO999(aka 666 satan) page. Curse you Y mail.

as for emergency fix forget secure mode. If u can login to messanger just click and login from there or else furiously high speed try login in, ( FU, multiple tries won't get you locked out, as i don't think all times its possible, maybe once or twice)

Taken from another posting at DSLReports.com:

Try lowering the MTU (Home/Wan Settings). Start with something like 1352, if it works, move it up until it no longer works, then move it back down. I know it doesn't sound like it should work but it does.

Many people in this case are facing this problem right ???
"This page is currently unavailable. Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again later.".

As my experience as System Administrator in Malaysia about 2 years, i'm facing this problem too...

and now i I have a solutions, maybe you're using DSL modem with router or maybe this course is from your enterprise that have a proxy firewall such an example ISA firewall. But let make this thing simple, So the best way is try lowering the MTU.
What is MTU? MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) is the maximum size of each packet sent (in octets).

If you're using DSL Modem with Router
The MTU can be found on web-based configuration just an example on Aztech DSL modem is http://starmodem or http://192.168.1.1
1. Go in the Expert Mode
2. in Wan Connections. u saw PPP WAN uplink. Click Edit.
3. Click Edit 'Ip Interface'
4. now u will find the MTU. Change it to 1350.
5. Click Change

That is based on Aztech DSL Modem, but i think it's a same concept on other brand.. I hope u all can solve this problem..
Now u can check ur yahoo mail without clicking the secure site. :)

p/s : about the MTU, u can put it higher if u like, but try to experiment it if it work when using yahoo mail.. until u get the best MTU. Credit also to anon for sharing ideas. :)

IF YOU WANT IN TO YOUR YAHOO EMAIL ACCOUNT YOU GOTTA GO THROUGH YAHOO MESSENGER.IF YOU AINT GOT IT DOWN LOAD IT. AND THENNNNNNN....

1ST. LOG INTO MESSENGER AND CHANGE THE USER, IF YOU AINT GOT IT DOWN LOAD IT.

2ND. GO TO ACCOUNT INFO/ WHEN THAT LITTLE BOX APPEARS CLICK YES (I THINK THATS A DEFUALT BOX)

3RD. YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO REVERIFY YOUR PASSWARD TO GET INTO YOUR ACCOUNT INFO

4TH. ONCE YOUR IN YOUR NOT GOING TO WANA CHANGE ANYTHING... SO CLICK FINISHED

5TH. AND FINNALY.. IT'LL TAKE YOU BACK TO THE MESSENGER PAGE... TOP LEFT MAIL BUTTON.. CLICK IT AND YOUR IN.... EVERY TIME... BACK DOOR BABY

6TH. SCREAM AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS TILL YOU FEEL BETTER.

CAUSE YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO GO IN THROUGH YOUR YOUR MESSANGER ACCOUNT INFO (EVERY TIME!) IF YOU CANT GET IN.

Next Issue: My yahoo messenger does not work. No log in... The tracert to their (mail.yahoo.com) works. (206.109.127.60). There is a serious latency at the last hop. Maybe they're going through some sort of DoS attack...?

i think it's happening to everyone ... or most people. i want to be sympathetic to Yahoo & praise them for enhancing their service, & i know that mistakes happen ... but i think it's totally unprofessional because it's gone on now for over 24 hours. i REALLY hope they fix it soon! & until now, Yahoo has been the best. a question to Yahoo: what's going on?!

Posted by: Michael at June 16, 2004 12:13 AM | Permalink

Experiencing similar problem since the upgrade. Mails being sent 'via' the yahoo accounts are taking hours to reach the destination (in some cases over 24 hours) - only know this as I belong to a group and postings that I make normally appear within a few minutes.
Most other users wouldn't be aware that their mail isn't arriving as 'usual'

Posted by: mariam at June 16, 2004 05:49 AM | Permalink

Any ideas why uk yahoo mail loads up as what looks like HTML. In the past I have just had pages of characters. This is a fairly frequent occurrence. Tried logging in via international sites which works until mail goes back to uk.

what i want to know is if this thing, this problem, is affecting EVERYONE (or most) with a Yahoo!Mail account. if some people can acces their mail, i wonder what the difference is betweem "us & them"! as far as i know, i'm all there with recent updates. someone suggested that it could be the sheer volume of people just clambering to get hold of a free 100mb Yahoo mail account. i've done Internet searches on this & i can't really find much info about these problems - except this nice little forum where we the people can vent our frustrations... & i wish i knew more than speculation... & Yahoo! seems to be doing a PR blackout.

So does all that garbled letters/numbers stuff mean my ip has been blocked from accessing my own email account ? why ? what is going on ?

this is just getting confusing now

It's good to hear that I am not the only one having problems with their yahoo accounts. I can log in and receive mail with little or no problems, but I can't send mail.... Emails sent either through the Yahoo website, or their smtp server take hours to arrive (if at all!)..

Does anyone know what is going on at yahoo? I've sent yahoo repeated Help forms, with no response.

I'm almost relieved to know I'm not the only one having problems accessing Yahoo mail! Every time I try, all I get is a page full of symbols! (Is this happening to some of you?)It was working fine until Tuesday when I got the message about the upgrade to 100mb of storage, as soon as I went past that page it all went pear shaped! If only they would put up a page explaining the problems and keep people up to date with the progress instead of leaving everyone hanging and wondering what the hell is going on.

We have a problem with the miserable Yahoo email "enhancements" that I haven't seen mentioned yet. Our e-mail comes in with a GIGANTIC FONT OR TYPE SIZE, so big that it scrawlS across the screen so that we lose all sense of what is being said as we try to read it. Needless to say both of us have sent countless messages to Yahoo with no answer!
Does anyone know what is going on?? This happened right after we were notified of the wonderful new "enhancements."
We'd be very grateful for any help since it's futile to look to Yahoo for help.

As others have expressed, I'm glad to know it wasn't just me experiencing problems with my Yahoo! Mail account. I have been unable to get to my email for many days now. I can actually log in, but once I get to the page that tells me of all the "wonderful" enhancement and click on the "Continue to Yahoo!Mail" button, it times out and I get a "Page cannot be displayed" error.

Off of that enhancement page is a link to their Help page from which I sent many pleas for help and never received a response. Low and behold, I got one last night. I was shocked (it went to another email I listed when submitting my form). I still can't get to my email, but just thought I'd share with you what their response was:

New and Improved Yahoo! Mail - better than ever!

Posted by: Brandee at June 18, 2004 06:23 AM | Permalink

Well here I am again. Yahoo uk mail back to gibberish. It worked for about a day. Storage size took a couple of days to increase.

Back to either displaying as programming script or graphic buttons display. One or two occasions managed to make sense of a couple of downloads before went off again.

I can confirm that as a free subscriber there is absolutely no customer service. In one or two years I have never received a reply from them.

Yahoo uk tv satellite channels been out of date for months. Cannot update my Yahoo to show correct channels.

Maybe everyone should get together and contact the advertisers and tell them they are paying for a crap service that probably does NOT work more than it does, with no way of recording problems. Advertisers should demand an immediate refund unless Yahoo addresses its inadequecies straight away.

I also keep getting an error message when in yahoo mail or messenger.Something to the tune of Visual basic C+++ runtime error and internet explorer has to close down.

5 days without a glimpse of my inbox and counting! "New and improved Yahoo! Mail - better than ever!" ???? - they are definitely having a laugh!
Still no official word on the matter, which is pretty poor. Customer Care has certainly passed them by - maybe it's just a sign on the door of an empty office - seems that way! Brandy, thanks for enlightening us with the reply you were sent, replies from Yahoo are like gold dust it seems, maybe you should frame it, could be a valuable antique in the future!
They probably think we have no right to complain because many of us are taking advantage of a free 'service', but obviously paying customers receive little or mostly no extra for the 'privilege' of paying.
How nice would it be if they actually told people what was going on?!

Got a reply from Yahoo 'Help' saying blah, blah blah, and that if I have further trouble, to contact them via their new upgraded service - which I still can't get at! This is from any pc; and none of the workarounds on this page work!

I haven't been able to get into any of my Yahoo e-mail accounts or Yahoogroups this weekend. I was able to open a new account, but could not sign out of it, much less sign into an old account -- and when I went back to the new account later, the same problem occurred -- we sit and sit and eventually get a "Cannot find"/"Page not available" error message. (I heard that Comcast customers were having problems, but Comcast claims they have been resolved.)

I have been having the same issue all weekend, trying to sign into anything on yahoo, or even submit a help form!!

At my friend's house, with COMCAST as well, I was able to log into some things, but not others.

Wow, you would think a service as big as yahoo would get this issue fixed!

Posted by: jon matthews at June 21, 2004 12:12 AM | Permalink

After reading the above comments, I am also a COMCAST customer, so I called them and it is a problem with Comcast - they are "working on it" with hopes of resolution in 3 to 4 business days!

I too have had problems since late Friday. I have comcast at home but just got into work and tried it out and STILL can't login. I know we aren't using comcast at work... it could be a problem with the service provider comcast uses.

Ok folks.... here's what I found...

I just started having the 'page cannot display' problem and found that it's resolved by using a proxy. Enough said for experienced users.

For those of you who are saying 'huh?', read on...

a proxy acts as a middle man, passing your requests on to a web server. This means that the web server thinks it's the proxy making a request, not your IP. The proxy forwards the response from the web server back to your PC.

Your ISP says it's not their problem cause they are working fine. Yahoo says it's not their problem cause their mail server, is indeed, operating fine.

If this resolution works for you, then it means that Yahoo won't accept requests from your IP, maybe because they believe you are a spam server (that's just a guess).

One last thing - you can find proxy servers by searching the net for 'proxies'. And keep in mind that not all proxies will work, especially if Yahoo has the proxy's IP blocked. To update IE with your proxy, go into IE's Internet
Options....Connections.... LAN Settings....and at the bottom under Proxy
Settings, click 'use a proxy server for your LAN' and fill in the address & port of the proxy server (I used 216.49.160.199 as a proxy with a port of 80)

Good luck to all!

This is an interesting thread. I have been a COMCAST subscriber and never had any problems until I bought a new computer! Set it up this weekend, re-installed the COMCAST software and now I'm getting the "not available" message. I'll bug COMCAST and see if I can shake more info out of them.

Posted by: Dave at June 21, 2004 07:41 AM | Permalink

Update - Just spoke with Comcast. They do confirm Yahoo problems. As of Monday AM EST, Comcast say they think they have resolved the problem accessing My Yahoo pages except Mail. They are still trying to resolve routing issues with Yahoo Mail. No answer on when they expect to resolve the problem.

Posted by: unhappy at June 21, 2004 08:24 AM | Permalink

Minor breakthrough earlier. I actually managed to get to the welcome page at 3PM UK time and after several attempts managed to get into the inbox, but couldn't open any messages. I had 2 messages from Yahoo about the problem but couldn't get into the first to read it. After many tries, I finally managed to get into the second, which was a feedback request asking me to follow a link to fill out a form stating what I thought of the new 'improved'(????) Yahoo mail and to advise of the problems I'd been having, but the link didn't work and since then I have been getting the same page of symbols as before each time (Maybe their swear filter knew what I was going to say and chickened out!). Seems that they may be making progress, albeit very slowly. The problem definitely lies with Yahoo.
My only advice is to keep firing off those error reports, every day, twice a day if need be, as this seems to get them moving a bit.
At least I managed to get into the inbox to see who had written to me, so thankfully I can contact the senders via msn instead to let them know not to send anything to my Yahoo mail for the time being. If I do manage to get into the feedback form at some point, I will try to let them know about this page so that they can see for themselves the different problems everyone's mentioned & how fed up we all are with their lack of information etc.

Posted by: Jayne at June 21, 2004 09:15 AM | Permalink

So I contacted Comcast about the problem Monday 11 AM eastern time. They totally deny that it is their problem. The curious thing is that I can access the yahoo mail if I hook my computer directly to the modem, but if I am trying to access it through my router it times out and gives me the usual error page. The rest of my internet works fine when connected to the router, and I can access hotmail and ebay. Does anyone know a way that I can fix this???

Posted by: Annoyed at June 21, 2004 09:47 AM | Permalink

To be honest, I don't think it has too much to do with Comcast, think it's just an issue with Yahoo themselves. I'm in the UK and do not use Comcast and I'm still having the same problems as everyone. There seems to be a few variations in what people are experiencing, some people managing to get in but not be able to use certain features, some people can't get in at all. Some resolutions seem to work for some people but not for others, for example, some have found that if they switch to using dial-up instead of BB they can get in, I only have dial-up but I can't get in. Think it's just a case of Yahoo getting themselves sorted out, then hopefully all these problems should disappear.

Posted by: Jayne at June 21, 2004 10:27 AM | Permalink

This would be getting funny if it weren't so annoying. When I contacted Comcast, they did seem to indicate that it was (at least partly) their problem. Here's the response:

We apologize for the inconvenience of this Yahoo issue.

This Yahoo issue is a known issue that we are currently looking into.
The problem is more than likely an update issue of some sort (possibly
DNS) between our two services that will self-correct on your end when
complete.

If you have a router, disconnect it and connect one computer directly
into the cable modem. Unplug the modem from its source of power for one
minute then plug it back in. Reboot your computer. Try accessing things
again.

If the above doesn't help resolve your problem, try accessing Yahoo
directly via its IP address.

If that doesn't work, you will have to wait for resolution on this end.
Engineers are working towards resolution right now. Unfortunately, I
have no estimated date/time for resolution.

If you have any additional questions or concerns related to this matter,
please contact us at 1-800-COMCAST.

I was having problems accessing my email. What finally worked was the following.

I pulled the power plug out of both the router and cable modem and let them both sit a few minutes. You have to pull the plug - just turning them off doesn't work!

I then plugged the cable modem back in and let it sit for a minute or so until got to the point where the data light was not on and two others were solid. I figured this was its "Uh, I'm waiting" state.

I plugged the router it.. let it go through its boot and its lights started and the data light on the cable modem start flashing. Typical stuff. Ok.. So I go back to my computer which has not been rebooted or anything.. In fact I was still logged into Yahoo messenger when I pulled the plug. It logged in automatically. I loaded IE independent of Yahoo messenger and typed mail.yahoo.com. Entered my login ID and password and pressed [ENTER] and...

IT WORKED!!!!!

Don't know what the exact issue was but after doing the above it worked like there never was an issue.

Perhaps we should start inundating the media with the question? I will be monitoring this site for an answer. Email less for almost 3 weeks.

this is the help i received. might benefit someone

Hi!

Yahoo have made certain buttons dependent on the browser allowing their advertisiers' sites to run _Javascript applets or "Mobile Code".

They appear to have made agreements with spammers to force us to view their ads and provide profile info to them.

To make matters worse, the particular sites will vary for each of us depending on our location, domain version and (possibly) pregathered profile info.

My ???@yahoo.co.uk addie is fine, but will only send attachments if I allow "opi.yahoo.com" to use mobile code. Sometimes it will also request ad.doubleclick.net (another scumbag spammer) when I ask to attach a file.

You might want to set up a temporary .uk addie as described in my post: http://yahoo.weblogsinc.com/entry/5449124033511092/#c7825

Yahoo.com is worse! I had to enable Javascripting on both "us.js1.yimg.com" and "view.atdmt.com" before it would allow me to even send or delete an email.

To resolve this, you need to put your firewall into "Learn mode" or in ZAP's case, switch on Privacy Advisor. When it blocks _Javascript, click to view details, then enable mobile code for that site. Go back to the previous page and repeat until no more Java blocks are happening.

nb. You *don't* need to allow cookies, web bugs or (ironically) adverts. These can remain blocked throughout!

All the buttons you pushed to get this far will now work. If others don't, just find out what site is requesting _Javascript and allow it.

Don't forget to note which sites you enable. When Yahoo get their act together, you want to be able to go back and block all mobile code from each of the scumbag ones you just enabled.

Get back to me (somehow!) with browser and firewall versions if you need more detailed help, but I can't tell you exactly what to do without that knowledge.

The pub beckens me right now, but I'll check for any reply later.

HTH,

Good luck!

I have also started to have this problem HOWEVER it seems tied to my DSL subscription. I have 2 laptops - the first i installed the Verizon DSL software to "activate" account. The second I did not. On my first laptop I experience all of the problems above with no resolution. I have uninstalled the verizon software and downloaded firefox to no result. My OTHER laptop accesses Yahoo mail and sends just fine. I find it strange the only things I can access onthe first computer in the Yahoo account is Help and my addresses....

What can I do to fix my other laptop - im guessing somehoe the MSN/DSL software blocks yahoo in my registry??? Is this possible??

Yippee!!! After more than 3 weeks my Yahoo is back and apparently running just as it use to. I finally contacted a computer newspaper columnist whos suggested that my problem might be browser specific.
He suggested that I change browsers. He thought that Internet Explorer might be my problem as they had done things like this in the past and that their Hotmail is a major competitor of Yahoo. I changed to Netscape (there are other browesers which might work also) and everything seems to be running just fine.
I can send, delete, reply and forward to an individual or using the multiple addressee format.
Hope this helps someone out there. Best to you all
Diane

hi!
i am one of those who receive the annoying "page cannot be displayed" message everytime i try to access to mail.yahoo.com. i tried everything people suggest: other browsers, changing proxy settings, secure box, other links, deleting cookies, unplugging the cable modem etc. but nothing worked! i'm having this problem for a few days but i can see here that these things started at least in november 03, so it has been at least eight months. of course, this is not the first problem i had with yahoo. i see there is some serious things going on; but as far as i could find out from the search engines, still nobody deals with the issue, except the victims and some good people who try to help them (us) in some forums. i'm pretty sure that my problem will be solved within a few days or weeks -it'll go just as it came,supernaturally- but it seems like they'll continue to make other people angry.
they make millions of dollars but still fail to work properly and they don't give a damn about it. so, let's protest yahoo! (i got really really mad this time!)

I am unable to do anything, just wait or ctrl-alt-del & restart. I have windows ME with IE 6sp1. Anybody have a solution for this. It's the only site that does it.

anyone experiencing this problem?

i am a yahoo plus user. for the past several days i have not been able to access my INBOX nor delete any messages. further more, an email i wrote in my SENT box shows an attachment of over 4GBs, which is 2GBs more than the storage and way over the 10MB allow per mail. however, everything else works...but is of no good since i cant get into the main INBOX.

can anyone help?

If anyone out there has YAHOO/SBC-YAHOO email accounts, has anyone had a problem sending email to JUNO.COM users? I am consistently getting an 'ACCESS DENIED' error on the bounce back msg. I think it is JUNO's feeble attemt to limit SPAM to their users. Or at least this is my guess. Anyone else had a similiar problem. Or has anyone ever been able to send email from SBC-YAHOO to JUNO? My friend can send me meail to the SBC account, I just can't send her mail. So I finally (on a fluke) tried sending from my new GMAIL account, and bingo-it worked! So this is why I have a feeling it is just JUNO's fault, and they need to fix their MX servers...

I am a Yahoo! Mail Plus user and was getting 25MB storage before Yahoo upgraded its free accounts to 100MB and Mail Plus accounts to 2GB. So I got a notifying email from Yahoo, saying that I now have 2GB and no banners, but when I looked at my inbox capacity meter, it showed 100MB, not 2GB. I do not have banners, so I am definetely on a Mail Plus account, not a free acount, but why 100MB??

Trying to contact Yahoo is a joke, every time I email any of their contact emails, I get an automated response recommending me to go to their help pages, where they say 'all' questions are answered or to fill out a feedback form, which was hidden far away and when I managed to find it and filled it out, I still got an automated response telling me to go to their help pages. No mention of feedback form this time.

Is phoning Yahoo, really the only option to contact them? I am asking because I'll be calling from Austrlia and can expect a bit of a wait (as usual with large companies) before they pick up, costing an international calling rate.

I am also woundering what will happen when I go over 100MB limit (I'm currently at 55%). Will Yahoo threaten with removing my files if I don't remove some myself and eventually do so if I don't? How dumb is that?

Or maybe I should wait them to remove my files and sue them after for my lost files? I have paid for a 2GB inbox, not 100MB and loss of my files will be entirely their fault.

Does anyone else have same problem?

Thanks

Hello...I had the same problem...as soon as i clicked on my "imbox" link the page would time out....then i decided to check whether my routers firewall had anything to do with it...so i connected my modem (dsl) straight to my computer (as opposed to going through the router then to all the computers in the house)...guess what...it worked...yahoo was fine...the problem was the routers firewall........check your firewalls!!

Ok here is a problem a co-worker has encountered: He gets the 999 error page when trying to sign in with HIS username and password on HIS computer. He also get the error page when trying to sign in with HIS info on MY computer. I can sign in using MY info on MY computer--but not on HIS computer.

We tried clearing the cache and cookies, tried using Firefox 0.91, tried using the secure login, tried login in via Yahoo! Chat, tried adding Yahoo! to the trusted sites list...

I was thinking it's all Yahoo's problem, but why would MY username and password fail on only HIS computer if that was the case??? So I think it's a combination of Yahoo! and some local settings that aren't quite right.

All our machines are behind a firewall, but that isn't the problem because I can sign in with MY info on MY computer.

My co-worker wrote Yahoo! for help last month but hasn't heard back from them. I checked all through Yahoo! Help but turned up absolutely nothing.

Anyone else have any other things to try?

Since June 15, 2004 my bulk folder isn't working. No spam-mail lands in it anymore, although the Spam-Guard is enabled and the settings are correct. Customer service has verified that it is true, by sending fake spam messages to my inbox and confirming that they were not directed into the bulk folder but into my inbox. They told me to be patient. I replied to an email from Customer_Support@sbcis.sbc.com asking for an update, but the email bounced back as undeliverable!!!! A friendly employee from SBC/Global called me a month ago, asking about the problem. She told me to call her if the problem wasn't solved within two weeks. Well, I called her and left a message, she never returned the call.
Has anybody else experienced the same problem???

I had a yahoo acct de activated for no apparent reason. I am not sure what to do. The thing is I also had a yahoo group too. It's still up and running. My profile is still active and searchable. I wanted to go in and delete certain advertising that looks like it wants to take over my group. I am wondering was it really yahoo who shut me or was it spammers. I have no nudity on the site at all. It's in the health section it's a group about make up. I have members of all ages and lifestyles. I am not really sure what to do. Also, I did send a customer care form but it acts as if it does not understand. Above is my yahoo group. You can say I am moderating from the sidelines. I wish they would delete everything or reinstate my acct. If anyone has any idea what could have happened I would greatly appreciate it.

Still can't get yahoomail to work. But there's a possible solution that will let you read you messages. Note that you won't make any replies or anything else, just read your messages. Try entering www.thecloak.com, enter yahoomail address in the URL field and start surfing! It only works once a day, but it's better than nothing. Good luck. Piero (from Lima, Peru).

I STILL don't get why people are going mad at Yahoo. I don't know about the paid yahoo, but the free yahoo mail service sure beats the others. I've been an ardent hotmail fan; unfortunately all my friends use msn messenger and i've got no other option than to follow msn. I want everyone to switch to yahoo immediately. Why?..well check out this comparison:

1) Firstly, the most important, that is to say, the storage space...100 MB provided by yahoo compared to a measly 2 MB by hotmail..i'm talking about the free service.

2) Then the attachment size limit. Yahoo shines with 3 MB, and hotmail giving 1MB, well that's half of its storage limit, you can expect your mail to bounce back if you use the entire 1 MB message limit.

3) Lastly, the junk mail folder. While yahoo keeps its contents for one whole month, hotmail empties it every five days, ensuring that you lose your important messages addressed to mailing lists in which you are included. Well there are times when i won't be able to access my mail for more than 5 days, esp. while going camping or trekking (this is my case, and i dont have a laptop- even if i had, i'd be a jerk in front of my friends if i carried it around.)

Please note that all these apply to their free services, not the yahoo or hotmail plus service. Also note that i was a stubborn hotmail fan before being impressed by yahoo.
(you may ask- why then did i opt for hotmail first?...well.. they say first impressions count...i liked the name 'hotmail' better than 'yahoo'. yahoo? quite a name!

With best regards
Hareesh Haridas

PS: I sympathise with yahooSucks who has been a victim of outsourcing. I hope it stops, but, well, you know, the Indians are not to blame. (i'm an indian) The ones really to blame are the profit motivated established company big shots. (they are Americans) You know, USA has a capitalist economy (that's what i learned), and therefore profit, and not welfare, is the motive. If you want the government to think of the welfare of the people first, then the economy must be socialist. Like that of the former Soviet Union or China; but then again, i heard Americans don't like that kind.

I read that you got on the line with Yahoo support.
What is their phone number?
I cannot find it on any of their pages.

None of their "form letters" solutions work to resolve the problem. I am beyond frustration with them.

My yahoo email stopped working, it claimed that my password is not valid. So I tried to get a new password, but it did not recognize my secret.

After one hour it started working again.

I am waiting for gmail, Yahoo is from the old generation of Internet pioneers and it is time that they innovate or loose market share. I have 2GB space from their mail plus. But I think there is a lot of incompetent people running the show there.

The biggest incompetence is not having 24/7 live support. Call centers are available around the globe to do these jobs, all that is needed is to find companies with good integrity who will not divulge or sell members info or a system, where the support people do not have access to members email or other personal info.

No user using a particular subnet at my office is able to login to Yahoo. Outside of the one subnet logins to Yahoo are OK. Tried all of the "solutions". None worked. Yahoo must be blocking certain IPs for some reason. I guess we have been improperly blacklisted in some kind of anti-spam/anti-hacker test.

Trying to Google a fix for this issue and saw this thread ... I am having a similar problem - about a week 1/2 ago my Yahoo email interface suddenly changed - its now plain white BG with standard text, no ads, no nothing - I seem to be able to receive mail okay but CANNOT SEND ANY - I can compose mail (but no longer have the WYSIWYG editor, its just plain text) and when I hit send, it gives me a blank white page that says "done" in the taskbar. Checking my sent folder, there is no record of the mail there at all.

I've tried everything - AdAware, Spyware Doctor, Spybot S&D, Housecall by TrendMicro, emptying my cache, resetting my browser to all the default settimgs, even did a system restore to a week or so before this happened - nothing is working.

Yahoo support got back to me and said they could not recreate the problem ...
So what now? This is my business email and I can't use it.

The Gmail service is fantastic. A whole GB of storage space!! And searching for a particular word in the mail! Well, more than that, i like it because it is really fast (stored as cookies maybe). For dial-up impatient users like me, it's a boon to view mail and switch between email folders as fast as offline content. Thank you Gmail!

Hello, first time here and wanted to say hi

Posted by: Ming Lee at November 7, 2004 07:49 PM | Permalink

It's been a week since my yahoo account suddenly and inexplicably stopped accepting my password. Tried to log in last tuesday and received the "invalid password" message. Tried again typing very very slowly and very carefully, and was denied, again and again. No mistake of mine, nothing that Yahoo said on their help pages helped, and I could not even request a new password because "information you've provided does not match this account" when nothing had changed except a zipcode. I tried every zip code I've lived at since this account was set up, 6 years ago. Nothing. Finally got through to a real person via Yahoo customer service and was asked for my secret answer to my secret question. Gave the answer. Was told the answer did not match the answer on file (?!?!?) The most recent email has said, in the politest of terms, that I am apparently not who I say I am and they won't talk to me anymore about this account. It's been a week and it hasn't fixed itself. What makes it all the more frustrating is that I DID NOTHING WRONG. What the heck? I have almost 7 years of emails in this account, not to mention all my addresses, 3 years of emails from my husband in the Navy, and an extensive personal website built thru Pagebuilder. And I'm supposed to just let all of this GO???????

Has ANYONE had any luck getting yahoo to fix a problem like this?

Posted by: Angel at November 9, 2004 09:32 AM | Permalink

I have some numbers for yahoo:

408-349-3300
408 349 1572
866-800 8092

I was able to talk to a couple of "live" people today.

My problem is that I cannot login to the yahoo email account that I have had for 5 years.

I get a red message that says that my password is invalid.

When I try to get a new password they say that I am not answering my security questions correctly.

So a man named Raj at yahoo looks at my account and tells me that a hacker has gotten into my account and has changed my zipcode in my account information as well as my password.

This hacker is using my account for who knows what.

So he gave me this address to report the problem to yahoo:

account-security@cc.yahoo-inc.com

But when I emailed the above address I got another form letter from yahoo asking me the same security questions that a dozen exact form letters asked for the last several weeks.

There is no talking to computers.

So my next step is to hire a lawyer.

Anyone interested in a class-action suit?

Well, as a friend of someone who this has happened to, I e-mailed that address with a letter informing them of the hacking and asking them to fix it. They can ask for MY information because MINE is correct. No idea if it will help out, but it's very frustrating to me.

Update: Yahoo has just erased/made inaccessible the website that I created 6 years ago with YahooPagebuilder. Thankfully we managed to save the pages (just in time too), but this proves that they still aren't doing anything about it, and probably don't plan to. Unless we make some noise.

I'm with Sharon.

I have getting the message "login failed, please use the correct password and type the word you see below"every time I try to access my yahoo account. The same page also says "we require you to type in the word you see below" after 5 failed login attempts. The thng is that it is happening after the first failed attempt.I've changed my password three times in as many days and still the same frustrating results, I have no problem with yahoo messenger, but when it says "you have new mail" and i click "go to mail the failed thing evaery time. It eventually lets me in after typing that stupid word in the box,but this is a bunch of "B.S."I chose a long and unusual email and password initially for security reasons but beeing the disabled person that I am it is a very long and tedias set of typing sessions.I am trying very hard to be patient, but then I read that YAHOO_inc.is the biggest funder of spy ware cookies and that congress is seriosly trying to put a stop to all of that,I sure would like to hear of someone else having these issues.I'm runningWindowsME,have Norton sysworks04,AdAware,SpybotS&D,andTrojan hunter, and none of them find any real threats.I do believe that I have A"real good" hacker(crackhead) working my computer to the bone.So good that some of the best defense programs available can't catch it.I am a Gulf war VET and I'll be damned if I give up before my death! I gave my life and soul to this country and this is how some friggin coward repays us? SEMPERFI,MOTHER F***ER,WE will prevail! GOD BLESS AMERICA and KILL the REST!!! I've gotten a reference number from the yahoo security phone line, from a guy named David who was really, really understanding (that was really nice), and emailed security again. Now apparently I'll be getting another form letter, but I'll keep emailing until they help. Wish me luck.

Try it, folk. The number is 408-349-1572, listen until you reach the Password option (number4) and if you're lucky, you'll go straight thru. I was lucky, or maybe it was just the time I called.

We finally got DSL in our rural area in 9/04 - our daughter in college came home after finals and set up her router this Saturday so we could all be connected at once. That's when I could no longer access our Yahoo e-mail!

After reading through ALL the posts and trying several things along the way, which didn't work,I finally saw the post from the person who had been a systems administrator in Malaysia (posted on May 3, 2004).

I disconnected the DSL and router completely to troubleshoot by seeing if I could access through dial-up (a free back-up that we have) and it worked!

So now when my daughter gets home in a few hours, we will change the settings as recommended in the 5/3/04 post and see if we can then access the e-mail with both the DSL and router in use.

Hope this helps someone!

I'm getting the same error message as Deepak and Andrei. Whenever I try to reply, forward or compose an email the reply comes up blank, a composed email won't send as that's when I receive the "error on page" message. I then try to save it to drafts, and when I retrieve it to send, the whole email text has disappeared.
I tried your suggestion Mike to change it to Plain Text, but for some reason, any changes I want to make won't allow me to save, only to exit. Anyone else having this problem as well?
Many thanks. Sheri

I wonder if anyone can help, please? I'm having problems getting into the inboxes and other folders of my 3 webmail accounts, at yahoo, msn hotmail and mail.com. Every time I try each of them all I get is "page cannot be displayed." They seem to have been like this for nearly a fortnight now. Sometimes with msn I get the message, "page cannot...." and I've tried refreshing the page, then it comes up as "action cancelled." I've even tried clicking on "contact us" at mail.com, in order to try and report my problem, but I still get the same "page cannot be..." message. It's really annoying me not being able to get into my emails, as I know I have several unread emails waiting for me at each account, from different friends. Should I try accessing the accounts from a different computer? I'm stumped. HELP!!

I hate to sound discouraging, but.......

I had my email account hacked into on the 1st of November; a hacker was the only explanation for the reason why my password and all my personal information was suddenly no longer accepted by yahoo. Fought an email war with yahoo security all that month and half of December before I realized that they had stopped even pretending to be helpful and were just recycling form letters (i.e., sending me letter A, then after my reply, sending letter B, then after my reply, resending letter A........). I pleaded, begged, demanded, screamed, done everything short of cursing them to hell and back. Last I heard, a lady who started having problems in June was trying to gather information for a class-action suit against them.

I lost access to a 7yr old account, an extensive website, and everything they contained. And had to stop screaming at them because it was making me seriously depressed.

Yahoo. SUCKS.

just got this back from yahoo geocities but it still dosn't help my websites are down and this is now the 5 day ???

As I understand, you are inquiring about receiving a 999 error when
visiting your website. We were able to view your page at:

http://geocities.com/orion57uk

without any problems. Please try again.

If the problem has not been resolved, you may want to try clearing your
cache or reloading your page.

To Reload your page:
View your page again and press the "Shift" button down on your keyboard
at the same time clicking on the Reload/Refresh button on your browser.

The Error 999 code is a result of pirated IP addresses, and the blockage
has been instituted as an Abuse safeguard. In these instances, Yahoo!
has intentionally blocked these IP addresses. Yahoo! monitors all
network activity and when they notice a significantly high amount of
activity coming from a specific IP address or a proxy, Yahoo! blocks it.
The downfall to this is that most pirated IP addresses belong to small
business or home users. When Yahoo! blocks the IP address to safeguard
against getting hit, the original owners of the IP addresses also get
blocked.

Please do not hesitate to reply if you need further assistance.

Regards,

THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM OF NOT BEING ABLE TO GET INTO YOUR YAHOO MAIL INBOX - WIRELESS ROUTER SETTINGS MUST BE CHANGED.

Fix for Yahoo error 999
Linux, Redhat 9
Mozilla browser 1.2.1

"Unfortunately, we are unable to process your request at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again later. error 999"

Kept having the above error in trying to access the Yahoo mail and small business logins. I could clear it up by rebooting (drastic medicine for a Linux user).

Saw a post here by Randy at June 21, 2004 talking about proxies which had some good info. After reading his post, it seemed like a good idea to *avoid* a proxy when dealing with Yahoo.

This solved the problem for me. These directions are for a Mozilla 1.2.1 browser:

Edit->Preferences...
select Advanced
select Proxies
Find the entry box labeled "No Proxy for:"
Add this info to the box: .yahoo.com

Good luck.

Posted by: Reed at January 12, 2005 01:28 PM | Permalink

Further clarification to previous post...

My Mozilla browser was set up to use a filtering proxy. So putting ".yahoo.com" on the No Proxy list causes all yahoo traffic to avoid that proxy server.

In Randy's case, his problem was solved by essentially doing the opposite, going from not using a proxy to using one.

Perhaps the bottom line (just a guess) is that a server somehow gets on Yahoo's "bad boy list" and one can solve the problem by changing where your traffic originates from.

I am signed up with yahoo geocities plus so too are my two friends I use aol adsl broadband. My two other friends are using tiscali and freeserve adsl broadband we live here in the USA and wait for it
“we have all had the 999 error every time we try to get onto our sites”
What we find strange is that we can still get into all our data? File manager, billing ~ credit card info. So has yahoo geocities got a bigger problem than they dare to admit. What ever it is, "its not good for my business or my friends businesses.

Posted by: Philip Dyson at January 13, 2005 04:41 AM | Permalink

I am also signed up with Geocities Plus. In fact, I pay for 3 accounts/webpages. I haven't been able to access my webpages 80-90% of the time since last Thursday. I called a couple days ago and reported the problem. They said they would work on it and gave me a case number. As of today, I'm still unable to access my pages most of time. So today I called the billing department and they are issuing me a credit for this month. I use AOL via DSL and live in the Atlanta, GA area.

(It must be a new firewall at yahoo geocities)

Once the site owner have confirmed unique details at yahoo geocities customers care Via PHONE everything should settle down
( its no good sending emails)

My advice is just sit tight Yahoo geocities are aware of this problem!!
Don’t reboot your computer or delete the new Microsoft service pack 2 as I’ve heard & read on other threads all your doing here is causing security problems for yourself

(It’s a technical issue at yahoo geocities just be patient it will be resolved.

Hi there!
Just to let you know, I have experienced similar problems to some of you guys with yahoo mail, my.yahoo.com and geocities recently.
My husband works for Yahoo! So I have sent him all your comments so that he can use them to solve the problem.
It seems that the Yahoo! workers "at the coalface" (i.e. the ones who actually write the code for these sites) were unaware of these problems.
Please post any future problems you have here too so that I can pass them on.
Thanks
Michelle

Sorry, folks, the spambots have defeated me. Good luck in your quest to find happiness and tech support with Yahoo. This entry's comments are officially closed.

I put up the 'Yahoo Mail Problems' weblog post over a year ago, and since then it has garnered many comments and a high place in search engine rankings. A few months ago, I turned off comments because it was a spam target.

I'm sorry that you're having problems with Yahoo. I'd like to help you, but unfortunately, I'm not affiliated with them in any way, and thus cannot help. Some links that may or may not be useful to you:
